I'm proud to be a professional coach. It's a great way to make a living: I get to work with fabulous people who combine doing good with doing well. I have the pleasure of watching people succeed and the honor of celebrating their successes. I've long known the power of coaching–both from being coached, as well as seeing clients become more effective and grow in confidence and skill. Now, for the first time, there are solid data to back up what I and my clients have known all along: coaching works.
The International Coach Federation is releasing the findings of their landmark ICF Global Coaching Client Study. (The full report will be available by March 2009.) To conduct their study, the ICF commissioned two prestigious, independent research firms: PricewaterhouseCoopers and the Association Resource Centre Inc. These firms gathered reliable, in-depth data on the ever-growing number of individuals throughout the world who have experienced working with professional coaches. From late September through November 2008, 2,165 coaching clients from 64 countries responded to the client survey, which was offered in English, French, German, and Spanish. One key finding: the overwhelming majority of individuals who experience professional coaching report being “very satisfied” with their coaching experience and would repeat it.
